How to Remove or Ban Fans from your Facebook Fan Page or Business Page

Banning or Removing People from Facebook Fan PageDid you ever have the need to eliminate someone from your Facebook Business Page? Maybe one of your Facebook Likes is constantly promoting their business or application or contest on your Business Page and after asking them nicely you just want to get rid of them? Or maybe you have an ex you’re trying to prevent from seeing you on Facebook – you’ve blocked them from your personal Profile but need to get them off your Business Page now. Or maybe your competition has been watching your Business Page and trolling through and commenting on your posts?  Whatever the reason, this will explain how to remove people or other Pages from your Fan/Business Page temporarily, or ban them completely.

Updated January 2016:

1. Go to your Page Settings. Click on People and Pages on the left.

Facebook Page Settings

2.  This will bring you your list of likes which you can then sort by people or pages, or people who you have banned. This will NOT show you ALL your likes because some people have their privacy settings set so that things they like are hidden but it’s something.

People Who Like Your Page

3. From there, find the name you need to ban and click the gear cog on the far right to choose to either remove them from your likes (boot them – but they can re-like) or ban them entirely.

Ban a Facebook Page Like

3. Once you click to ban them, you will be asked to confirm this. Note that even though they will not be able to interact with the Page, they CAN still view it. There is no way to prevent that. If you simply removed them from your Page Likes they can re-like the page on their own and interact with it.

Ban a Facebook Page Like

4. Click Confirm and you’re done!

5. What if you do not see the person or Page you want to ban within the list of Likes? In that case you will need to “catch” them in a comment on your Page. When you do, hover over the right side of the comment and click the X – you will have the option to Hide.

Hide Inappropriate Facebook Comment

You will then have the option to also Report the comment or Ban the user from there.

Report or Ban Inappropriate Comment on Facebook Page

I hope this is helpful. What stories do you have about why you needed to remove someone, or know someone who did? Leave them in the comments, I’m sure we can all learn or laugh from your experience!

helpful! So here’s a question. I have a really ….. ugh…. family member blocked on facebook. If he finds my fan page and fans it will I see him in my list of fans? If I search for him on facebook I don’t see him because I blocked him. Does blocking him cover him fanning my page too?

I DID see that he subscribed to my blog via networked blogs. bleah. Anyway to kick him to the curb there?

And there’s the reason I don’t blog about my kids except on my facebook page for friends only to see.

I am not sure about Networked Blogs but for your Fan Page, you will have to manually scan the list for him, there doesn’t appear to be a way to prevent someone from joining (blocking from the personal doesn’t block the fan page far as I can tell). Good luck with that. I feel your pain!

I don’t know if I’d even be able to see him since I don’t see him anywhere on facebook since I blocked him…. (you don’t see who you’ve blocked) so I don’t know that I’d be able to see him in manually scanning my fan page list.

well you know what? If he wants to stalk me that badly, he’ll learn about my business and he’ll get some great posts on skin care. *lol*

    Have a great day!

@mustafa, the 2nd to last comment on this page may have a solution for you:

      Aumer Shughoury
SOLVED: How to Unban a Fan

This took me forever to figure out. I had to make a fan page and a new profile and ban my new profile from the fan page to figure this out.

When you “permanently ban” a fan they can still become a fan of the page; they just can’t interact with anything on it (post on the wall, comment on stuff, etc). TO UNBLOCK A FAN, you must wait for them to become a fan of the page again. Once they are, you can find their name on the fan list and click “unban,” which will be in place of the “make admin” button.

      • Cyndi on January 13, 2013 at 9:05 am

Actually you will have a list of banned fans and that is where you remove the ban. You do not have to wait for them to relike the page.

        • AKASHA-ROSE EMMANUEL on December 7, 2015 at 4:09 pm

Hi Cyndi – I wish to unblock someone from my Facebook Page but I cannot for the life of me find a list of banned fans. Help! I’ve looked for that list everywhere! Dec 2015.

Akasha – If you go to your Page, then Settings, the People and Pages on the left, you will see a list of people who liked the page. Change the drop down at the top to show people Banned from Page – voila! This is as of Dec 2015 – things are always changing!

Hi Kapitan – did you see the answer below Scott’s? The only way I can think of would be to find their post on your page and then X them out. I sure wish FB had an easier solution for this. If you know what types of things they post about you could maybe put one of their words in the blocklist in the back end? For example of they are always posting their link you could put their domain as a blocked word, then their post would have to be moderated? That is the only other thing I can think of.

  9. josh on January 24, 2012 at 10:35 pm

I am having the same problem, I need to block someone that is adding everyone off my page. I paid for advertising aswell.

Pretty annoying. I know who the person is but I can’t find them because it is only showing me the newest 400 or so fans.

Yes annoying especially if they are not posting so you can’t catch them. Have you seen Mari Smith’s contact list for Facebook? I’ve had some luck getting a live person to respond to these. Perhaps that is the route to go:

  13. Geraldine on February 21, 2012 at 7:52 pm

Hello, I do have the same problem that Lydia have.

here is the situation : I have blocked someone (following the steps) from a Fan page (banned) … that person can no longer post comments, but, he can still see the Page activity (?) I would like him not to see it at all.

I know that he sees it because on his own facebook profile, he’s talking about the Fan page (laughing about it). We have friends in common, so my friends are telling me what he’s writing…. very annoying.

would be great to totally block him, even from seeing the page. Any idea ??

    • Anonymous on August 20, 2013 at 9:20 am

I have the same problem with a former friend and competitor (2, actually) that can see my business pages and have been complaining about me, comparing, and trying to steal my ideas….I have had to keep things very close to the vest and not share until it’s released. This is not good for business. FB needs to come up with a way to keep those ppl from even SEEING our pages, if they’ve been banned. They should be blocked, just like our profile pages. So these ppl can’t even find them anymore…at all! 🙁

Hmm the oy thing I can think of is since fan pages are completely public, you can see them without being logged into FB (this is how Googke can index them) so they could look when not logged in, so FB wouldn’t know they’re banned.

Marlen – Since the pages are public and can be seen even without being logged in, there is no way to prevent this. What I would do is use an image editor to add a watermark to all the photos such as your logo or company name. Then at least if they stole your pics they would have to edit them to get that off (doable but a pain!). You can add a text layer and make it 25-50% opacity to do this.

  19. peterpan on March 23, 2012 at 8:58 pm

Unfortunately since fan pages are public there’s no way. Well there is ONE way – if you go to your Edit Page area and select one of the age or country restrictions (like say make it visible to over-18) then the page cannot be fully seen without being logged into FB so that might help but then that restricts you from being seen in the search engines because they don’t sign in. Other than that there’s nothing you can do except maybe report them as abusive or copyright infringement.

  21. peterpan on March 24, 2012 at 6:17 pm

ok so if i can’t block or ban them how do i make my business page visible but ONLY the top half, so my business page picture etc, not all the details on the page TILL they like it then they can see my wall and all the details, then ill know who’s seeing what and i know people aren’t just coming and going with out me knowing, I’ve been to pages where this is the case i can’t see everything till i LIKE their Page, there has to be a way to leave it somewhat public with some page privacy settings so they can’t see everything till they Like my page….

Nope there’s really no way to do that. What you are seeing on those other pages is a custom tab that they direct people to before liking the page, but you can bypass that to just see the main page, it is visible before liking. They are just “fan gating” content on that ONE tab. You can do this through custom Facebook apps – google fan gating app and you will see some like Shortstack, Heyo, FaceitPages…

Try clicking on New Likes in the dashboard (or Edit Page – See Banned Users) but toggle the drop down on the left to Pages that Like This and then click the X next to their Page. Or catch them when they comment. Check your personal profile Block list under Privacy setting too -you may have to unblock her as a person first then go re-block her.

Okay, so I removed someone without clicking the “ban” box like I meant to. So is there any way to go back now & BAN that person since I’ve already removed them from my “likes”? She’s left our company & is venturing out on her own — we don’t want her to be able to see what we’re doing in our expansion or on our pricing.

Actually that is GOOD because Facebook takes intellectual property infringement VERY seriously! Now you have “grounds” to get FB involved. I have had to do this twice now and actually get an email response within 24 hours and they remove the posts and once I believe they terminated the person’s account. I can’t tell for sure – she could have deleted and come back with a fake one but either way I felt better! Here are links to the forms to use, pulled from Mari Smith’s site:

          Report Copyright Infringement:

Report Copyright Infringement (this form appears to be very similar to the one above):

Report Intellectual Property Infringement (Non-Copyright Claim):

PS: I would take screen shots of everything in case you need to send to FB, and click the date stamp of posts and save the URL so you can send them the links if you need them to illustrate what’s been done.

Your article was helpful. I’m new to this Facebook page stuff! Do you know if there is a way to let someone “like” your page, but not have permission to comment? My colleagues find it odd that a guy is clicking “like” or commenting on every post for my business within seconds or minutes of the post. Sometimes his comments are unprofessional. I’m OK with him seeing the page, but not him posting on it.

Not really because business pages are public, and so they can see and interact with the page without even being logged in so FB would have no way to track who is on the page. The only way to block them from sending a message would be to turn the page message/inbox off completely.

  26. Anonymous on August 27, 2012 at 3:29 pm

Let’s say I blocked a certain person who owned a page similar to mine. If that person I blocked tried searching for MY page through their page, would they still be able to see it?

No I am afraid they could still find and see your page – they just can’t interact with it. Since pages are public and can be seen even when not logged into Facebook, there’s no way to completely hide the page from someone. I wish there was a way!

Edit page – Manage Permissions – Country Restrictions – Hide this page from viewers in these countries.

Ahhhh yes you can restrict countries that way – entire countries. Unfortunately what this does is put your page into “log in only” mode meaning you need to be logged in to see the page (so FB knows who to allow) – and since Google doesn’t log in to see your page, it restricts your visibility in the search engines so I don’t recommend it unless you’re really having a huge problem that outweighs the SEO benefits.

You can’t ban all likers of another page unless you know their names and ban them individually – what a pain! Sorry.

For everyone who has a large fan base and needs to find a person, just go to the list of people who like your page and press CTRL + F. A little pop up will show up at the bottom of your screen and you just type their name in. It helps find that person a lot quicker 🙂

Since pages are totally public and visible whether you are logged into Facebook or not, there is no way to prevent someone from seeing the content – much like on a website. The only way to prevent them from seeing what you post would be to use a private Group instead, which isn’t as good for marketing and reaching new people.

  35. Katie on December 12, 2012 at 4:46 pm

Is there anyway to ban someone from being able to view your fan page? I know with the personal pages if you ban someone you can’t even find them when trying to look them up. The reason I ask is that I sell accessories for little girls and I have noticed that some men have liked my page that are single and have inappropriate pages they have liked so it makes me think they are pedophiles. I just want to be able to ban men like that from being able to view pics on my page. Thanks!

No 🙁 Since an pages are 100% public – people can see them even when they are not logged into Facebook – there is no way to control that, just like on a regular website, you cannot prevent people from seeing the website. I am sorry I wish there was a way.

      • Max Be on December 18, 2012 at 12:15 am

For personal reasons, I actually want to be prevented from seeing a fan page. If the Admin ‘reports’ me to Facebook, will they block my access to it? There seems to be no way for me to contact Facebook and ask them to block my access. If a report is filed does that start a process that would enable me to tell Facebook that I WANT to be blocked?
I know this is a strange question but any help would be appreciated.

I am so glad I found this site. Karen, I hope you can help me on this problem which I have been having nightmares and losing sleep over:

I have a facebook page ( Somebody who “liked” my page had conveniently tagged my profile picture and used it as her own personal FB profile without asking my permission. I sent a message to request her to remove the picture and that I didn’t permit her to use my profile pic. Next I gave her a 24 hour removal notice. All my attempts to contact her were ignored/not replied to while she continued with using her FB with my profile pic in it.

I have since removed her tag, and banned her from my personal profile but can’t do so on my FB page. Now I can’t access or see her profile anymore.

I have also reported to Facebook, by clicking on my pic on her facebook. Some of my readers have helped to report to FB about her misuse of my profile pic. 3 days had passed and she is still using my pic. as her profile pic! FB has not replied to /contacted me yet. There is no record of my report in FB report center when I checked from my FB page.

    1. How do I know if FB has received the reports and taking action?
    2. Can she still access my FB page and download/tag my photos?
    3. What else can I do?

Sorry for the late reply (I thought I did long ago!) but was this resolved? There’s not much I know of that you can do. Be sure you are reporting them for intellectual property/copyright infringement – you will likely get a reply from Facebook asking for more details (that is what happened when I reported someone for copyright) and then you can have a paper trail to follow. FB has been cracking down more on this – copyright infringement is serious and that is what she is using by claiming it as her own. Also you might want to turn on tag-moderation that way you can be sure to NOT approve her tags:

No there is no way to restrict that since the page is public – they could view it without being logged in even. You can prevent individuals from posting/commenting, I don’t think you can ban fan pages.

Try clicking on New Likes in the dashboard (or Edit Page – See Banned Users) but toggle the drop down on the left to Pages that Like This and then click the X next to their Page. Or catch them when they comment. This will ban them from interacting but I believe they will still see the Page content.

  40. Shamrock Admin on February 5, 2013 at 3:37 am

By clicking “See All” as an administrator of a page within the list of “New Likes” you can scroll down the list to see earlier connects. You can scroll down for a while until a “See more” button appears. That button does not appear after three to four times after using it. So, what to do if you want to remove a person from your page which is thousands of Likes below if there is no more “See more” button? Thanks a lot. A desperate admin who wants to ban 14k users.

Probably because FB isn’t letting you see all of them – you will need to wait till they comment on something and then click the X and follow instructions for removing/banning them then.

Hi, I have a really weird problem, well I’ve “blocked” some people on my fanpage by going to their profile and checking “block” and I can’t see their profiles at all, I get an error page, that was good but I need to unblock them now and they’re not appearing on the banned list, how can I unblock them?

    • Karen Clark

Because you have blocked them, your account can’t see them. To UNblock them (temporarily) go to and then go into your Page and ban them, or wait for them to comment and then ban them, then go back and block them.

      • Mumu on May 31, 2013 at 4:06 pm

Hi. Thanks in advance for all the help you’re providing and answering all our questions. I also blocked a person (not banned) by visiting their page. This is what fb told me if I wanted to undo the block: “If you ever want to unblock _______, go to “Blocking” in your privacy settings.” I did that and there is no “Blocking” option under my privacy settings, therefore I can’t even see the people I have blocked, let alone unblock them. And as you said, I can’t ban the person unless they have been unblocked. This person I blocked has liked many of my posts but since I blocked them, they don’t show up. Also in the pictures they were tagged in, their name is there, but it’s unlikable. How do I get to that “Blocking” section that facebook says can be found under my privacy settings?

No they do not tell them who reported, so they will never know. What FB does varies, sometimes they just check it out, sometimes they do nothing, sometimes they will issue a warning or sometimes they will delete an account – I think (guessing) they accumulate negative points and when it reaches a certain number of “complaints” that is when FB takes action. I don’t get the impression that one person reporting them once results in much.

This is indeed very helpful, thank you! Delving a bit further into the subject, I have a question pertaining to a more complicated variation of this process. I have a fan page on Facebook and there is one fan who has been consistently harassing and antagonizing the page for quite some time. I nor the other administrators can find any way to block him normally, however. He does not appear in our likes list and when I go to his profile to attempt to block him that way it does not offer me any means of doing so. I have tried contacting Facebook directly about the matter but have gotten no response. Please help!

Hi Karla – You can do it as an Admin, you will see the same things she does on her account. The problem is you cannot see all the fans, especially on a large account. You will need to ban/remove them when they actually make a comment or like something on the page. Sorry, I wish there was a better way!

How do I ban like from a country? I tried the method in this post. But Facebook only allows me to scroll down to a certain point.

Lately my page has received over 400 like from people from Russia who are obviously fake! Now every time I pay to promote a post to people who like me and their friends, 98% are Russian who do no click a like or do anything with the post. These are the 400 fake people who each have over 2.000 fake friends. And with every time I promote I get 10 to 20 new fake Russian like.

I have contacted Facebook several times, but they do not seem to care.

How can I delete and ban all users from Russia?

Hi, thanks for the great article, can I just clarify a few things – are the following correct?

    1) If you ban a person, they aren’t notified?
    2) Banned people can still like/unlike the page, see the page, and have all of my pages’ updates come up in their news feed (this is something I’d love to see changed, I don’t want my updates to come up in their feed!)
    3) They can’t comment/like status updates or put a post on my pages’ wall
    4) Previous comments/likes still remain (unless I manually go through and change them) OR are they deleted? I can’t figure this one out…

      The banned person isn’t notified.
Banned people can still see the page and like it but cannot comment or like posts.
They also cannot post on the Page directly.
I am not 100% sure but I do nothing think banned people’s posts disappear so it would be best to delete offensive posts first and then ban them.

Wow, really? Or is this an April Fool’s post. Let’s say it’s real – yes keep reporting her. If your husband is her FB friend but you are not, the only way her things will show up on your news feed is if he is liking or commenting on her items. When you see them come through, you can report them. You can also block her. However, you should know that just because her items are seen in your feed, your other friends/relatives won’t see them unless they are also connected to her in some way on their own Facebook, so they would need to block/ban her as well. They won’t see her simply because you do, if they aren’t connected.

The name change can be requested by a special tiny link next to your Page name – see if that is there and you will need to give FB a good reason to change the page. In some instances you have to prove the name of the business by providing a copy of a bill or account info – what a pain! But it is possible. To remove the new likes try going into the page dashboard, the most recent will be the ones in the See Likes link in the Insights. If that doesn’t work for you click the little gear to Use Facebook As (your Page) and then the little person/Friend icon on the far left will show the most recent likes.

You cannot see all the people who have liked your page so you would have to wait until they post or comment on that page and THEN click the little button on the top right to delete or ban the user. Unfortunately there is no other way since fan pages are “public” and people do not need to be logged into FB even to see them.

No it should not affect your insights/Edge Rank at all since you are the one removing them. If the people unlike or block your page then it IS consider “negative feedback” and can lower your ranking but by you removing them it won’t. They will not get a notification, you will just drop off and they might only notice if they wonder where you’ve been and go to your page and see the Like button unchecked.

my page just got spammed with thousands of turkish likes I really do not want! Before that I had 400 fans and now more than 2000 and it looks somewhat weird having that much. I don’t know where they are all coming from but since i got all these fans in less than one day I guess it is about hacked accounts or something and something went wrong somewhere. So I want to get rid of all that fans. If I put a retriction to my that turkish fans can’t see my page, will I get rid of the 2000 turkish likes? Will it take some time until they will be banned? If that doesn’t work, is there any other way?

Ugh – I have heard of that happening and it is not good because then the ratio or number of likers to number of likes/comments you get will be skewed. I have looked around and do not see a way to remove them other than manually. You could restrict your page to not allow Turkey but the problem with location restrictions is that it limits your Google visibility – because in order to see your page, people need to be logged in (so FB can see what country they are from) and Google doesn’t log in. Personally I’d let it go and work on building up a real fan base to counteract it. Sorry.

      • Lukas on October 31, 2013 at 1:03 pm

        Thanks for your answer!
So you do not think that those likes will be deleted? I can’t find anything about it. I just heard that the way of restricting helped out for some users. It took facebook some days to update the chart where my fans are from, but now it is up to date (so fb recognized that i have turkish fans) and the fans are still not banned even though I restricted the page not to be reachable for turkish users. Since I am running a real business I won’t be able to leave it that way, people might think I bought those likes on purpose. And who wants to work with a cheater? So if there is no way to get rid of those fans (and it doesn’t work manually, because one is only able to see the last 100 likes) I have to delete that page and to start all over again. I don’t care on google visibitly because I have my own webpage that redirects to facebook. So it is enough having that webpage. Thanks again for your help!

There is nothing built into Facebook that would prevent him from doing that. In fact anyone can say they work anywhere, they just list the Page they want to tag that way. I do think if you ban him though he would not be able to since you need to have liked the page in order to use it. You could simply ask him politely to remove it, since the relationship is no longer valid?

Some things have changed since I first wrote this but if you can see your See Likes link – it is usually in the dashboard preview for promoting the page, the box says Get More Likes – click See Likes. You only see some at first but can scroll down and then click See More at the bottom and keep doing that. I am not sure you can get to all 6000 though. 🙁 I haven’t found any other way.

I’m having a big issue where the majority of my likes are coming from the middle east. We’re a neighborhood clothing store and they are now rating us even though they haven’t been to our store. Is there anyway to, #1 delete their ratings, and #2 ban that region?

I do not see a way to delete reviews, but you can respond to them in a comment. You can also ban the individuals as they comment/post on your page. As far as regional restrictions you can edit that in Settings > Country Restrictions but you should know that adding a country restriction is said to affect your visibility in the search engines – since Google doesn’t “log in” to crawl your fan page, FB doesn’t know what country it is in so it won’t show it to them. It might be worth it to you if you have a strong presence elsewhere and aren’t counting on FB for SEO.

I think my FB business page was spammed by an ex-employee. I have about 8000 likes from Turkey. We are a beauty business and these likes are mainly from teenage boys and men. Before this I was slowly building a relevent audience using FB tools. This audience is now drowned out. I began initially removing the spam likes manually. This option is no longer available to me. Any other suggestions as to how I rid the page of these unwanted likes. Thanks.

Hi – I have someone who has liked my fan page at some point and does not want to receive posts from my fan page anymore. Are you sure this isn’t some kind of scam? It’s certainly not your fault and no small claims court case would hold up. I would ban her from the page:
Also could it be she is seeing posts from your page because other friends of hers are liking/commenting on your posts? Since it is public a “story” goes out to the friends of your fans when they interact. It could also be Facebook is showing your page as a suggested page if she has a lot of other friends who like your page. She probably just doesn’t understand how FB works but I would completely ignore any threats.

There is no way of blocking that person from doing that?

No unfortunately because the page is public anyone can see it even if they are not logged into Facebook. One thing you might be able to do is to go to their personal profile and report them to Facebook as an infringement on your intellectual property, that option gives you a chance to explain what is going on and I’ve had luck getting a response from Facebook that way. Good luck!

@hany – doesn’t that app require the person to have already messaged or posted/commented, so you get their link? If they’ve done that then you can just X them out and ban within FB.

@Krista – If it is on your personal profile inbox, click the little gear at the top of the message and the option to ban or report the person is there. In the business page inbox click on the drop down that says Actions at the top of the message and you have that option too.

Only if you ban him from within a comment he mad on your business page. If you block him on something else that will only block you from being his personal FB friend or seeing his posts. Since business pages are public, if he has any friends who are liking or commenting on your business page posts he will be able to see them in his news feed and there is no way to prevent that unless/until he comments on it himself and then you can ban him.

No there is not. You can create a “Friends List” for your inner circle and then be sure to set your photos or albums to be only visible to that list (choose Custom under the privacy option when you change from friends to another option). You can also, as you post something, change the privacy of that item to one of your friend lists, or block its visibility from others.

    Hi, great article!
I ban someone from a business page that was public for anyone to see, logged in to FB or not. After I banned that person I recently noticed that if a non logged in FB person goes to the page, they are told they have to log in to see it. Is this something new? Or is there a way around this that you know of? There are no age or country restrictions or any other restrictions of any kind on my page.

That is interesting and could be new. I wonder if once you ban someone, in order for Facebook to be able to tell who it is trying to access the page, it requires people to have to log in. This would not be good in my opinion because then it would limit the visibility in the search engines. Thanks for bringing this to my attention, I am going to look into it further.

You cannot prevent comments on a Page. You can adjust settings in a GROUP but they can still comment, though you can prevent people from posting directly to the group. There is no “announcement only” function on Facebook since it is a social network. You’d be better off going with an email list.

  85. Michael on January 2, 2016 at 6:19 am

Karen, I’m confused. Yesterday I noticed your Tweet “How to Remove or Ban Fans” pointed here. Then reading down from the top of this blog post, I tried following your steps but found that the FB interface has changed. After 30 minutes of poking around on FB I couldn’t find out a solution.

Okay then, I’ll google for terms like “Facebook business page like listing” to get help to find out everyone else can’t do this either! Finally after another 20 minutes I find that FB Admin says the capability to list likes is not available at this time ARRRG!!!

So apparently FB deliberately removed this feature and likely will never be enabling us to access a listing of those who have Liked our Fan/Business Page.

Karen, please update the top of your blog to reflect your scenarios no longer work (“maybe you have an ex or competitor who you no longer wish to see your Page…” Trying to learn from your Tweet has cost me an hour of time that I’ll never get back and so I’d at least like to know you can help others not fall into this trap.

    Thank you, Michael

Michael – you can see the people who like your page by going to Settings > People and Pages. Then sort using the drop down at the top. You may not be able to see ALL of them because some may have their likes private. But that may help do what you want? From there you can ban.

Hi! I made the typically boneheaded mistake of click farming multiple thousands of likes for my band, and now I’d like to go in and manually “unlike” all of the “fans” that clearly were just paid likes, as distinct from the real fans/people that actually intentionally liked the band etc.… Forgive me if this is already explained in this thread, but can you instruct me on how to do this? I don’t particularly need to ban anybody, I just need to go in and “hand-unlike” all the nonfans – thanks!!

No one except Facebook and they HAVE in the past removed a bunch of likes from people’s pages when they were either fake accounts, deactivated accounts, likes someone had purchased illegally, or accounts that were violating terms in some way (like a profile in a dog’s name) so once in a while they do clean house and your likes will drop because of it. Other than that no one else can reduce your likes except you (or another admin) if you were to start X-ing people out.

  90. Rossella on February 3, 2016 at 12:23 pm

    Hi Karen,

Thanks for the very useful post. I have used this technique to delete a few spam/fake account likes from my facebook page, but today I went back there and the list wasn’t visualising fully. That is not because of people’s privacy settings that hide their likes – simply many people I was seeing in my list the day before have now disappeared, the list is cut short.
Do you happen to know why or if there’s a way to go back to seeing the full list?

    Thank you,

Since the event is hosted by the page and not private, anyone who “likes” the page or sees it can participate. In order to restrict them you would need to ban them from liking the page all together either from your list of likes, or when they comment you could X them out. You can’t only remove them from the event.

Hi I have a couple of questions.

    1) is there a way I can block someone from my personal page after they’ve blocked me? Because I’m blocked I can’t view them to block them.

    2) if I ban someone from my business page it appears they’re still able to leave a review which doesn’t seem right. Is this the case?

    Thank you

    • Karen Clark

When someone blocks you the block is mutual – you can’t see them, they can’t see you. They would need to UNblock you (you would be in their list of blocked people) before you could see them to block them. But because they blocked you, they can’t see your posts or access your profile at all.

If you have BANNED someone (vs. removing them) they should not be able to interact with your business page at all. I’d make sure they are in your page’s block list. If they have left a review you should be able to remove them on the actual review? I don’t have a local page so I don’t have reviews to test it.

  94. Andy on April 17, 2016 at 6:48 am

Hi, I have someone causing problems on my Facebook page, but I can’t find anyway to delete their posts, or remove them from my page. I’ve looked at the Facebook help section and that just says to hit the “x” on their post, which isn’t there.

I am the admin, and only admin for my page and I have no idea what’s going on. I don’t know whether this is an error that is only affecting me, or if it’s an update gone wrong on Facebook’s end, but I can’t even manage my page AS my page any more.

Like I said, I’m not sure if this is yet another botched update by Facebook, but remember if you hit the drop menu on the top right and selected one of your pages, your name would be replaced by the name of your page? Mine doesn’t do that any more. Is that normal now?

    • Karen Clark
      Follow me on Twitter: mybizpresence

So a couple things could be going on here. One is that FB did change the way we access the ability to “act as your page” on your page. You will now always be “Andy” when logged into FB but when you are on your page itself you will be acting as the page anyway. This will explain that a bit:

As far as the X on the posts, click the V drop down and you will have the option to HIDE the comment and THEN under their comment you will have these choices: Unhide · Delete · Report · Ban [name] So try one of those?

  97. Sienna on June 27, 2016 at 1:09 am

Hi Karen, thank you for the information and your attentiveness in the comments. Couple of things:
    1. I’m torn between whether I should remove or ban certain people from my page. I’m doing a major clean up of my fan base cos I know some of them are either fake or inactive accounts. Will the remove option be sufficient enough to kick them off my page completely?

As weird as this is gonna sound, I actually want my follower numbers to decline because all these fake/inactive accounts are dead weight and they’re actually preventing my posts reaching those who matter – thanks to Facebook’s algorithm! So, if removing them from the page is good enough to get rid of them, I’ll go with that option cos banning them still keeps them visible on the banned people list. I don’t want them sitting there in the background cos I know I’ll never need to unban them. I want them gone completely – unless of course if any of them decide to re-like the page.

    2. Also, just a friendly warning to everyone: please don’t fall for Facebook’s “promotion” offers where you pay x amount to advertise your posts or page to relevant groups so you get better interaction and your followers increase.

The clean up I’m doing right now is because I fell for this “supposed” opportunity to promote my page and my page was bombarded with fake accounts. The more my numbers increased, the less post reach and engagement my page had.

I’m currently at 4000 followers and each post ranks at only 50-120 people reached with 2-3 likes maximum. Followers gained via Facebook promotions are nothing but dead weight and really not that different from those purchased from click farms!

Facebook is quick in advising against click farms cos they’d rather the money in their own pocket. Unfortunately the end result is pretty much the same and extremely damaging to your pages and business.

For anyone interested, here’s a short documentary explaining it all in detail – scroll to the bottom of the article for the video:

Yes removing them should do it – if they are truly “fans” they can like it again. Sorry you had that experience with promoting your page – I’ve seen that before however with super eagle eye targeting that can be avoided – gender, location, age, interests etc.

    Dear Karen,
Thanks for the great post and your high level of engagement with the comments. I couldn’t find answers anywhere so I revert to you. Basically I have 2 problems.
    1. I used a sneaky trick to invite all friends at once to like my facebook page and I realised invitations went to some individuals I didn’t want them to like. Some of them have still not liked and I want to prevent it from appearing on their notifications just like how friend request works by cancellation. Do you know of any ways around this?
    2. I have “removed from page likes” some of those who actually liked the page even if I didn’t want them to. Now what does “remove from page likes” really mean- does it mean they will not receive any of our notifications from the page for future page posts?

    Please help and many thanks.

According to FB once a page invitation is sent there’s no way to retract it. I thought there used to be a way but that appears to only be for friends requested. They would only receive the notice once by the way. Remove from page likes means they no longer like your page and will not receive notifications or your posts in their news feed.
