Making Search Engines Work for You

Search engine optimization is the practice of doing, saying and posting things online that enable people to find you more easily on the search engines. This is done through the use of relevant keywords—terms people actually use to look for what you have to offer—and relevant linking within your site, as well as links pointing to your site.

Research keywords within your market and use them naturally when you post online. This helps the search engines recognize you as someone who delivers what people are searching for, which in turn helps your site show up toward the top of the search results. Relevant links to you on quality websites also prove to the search engines that you are popular and deserve to be shared.

The search engines’ customers are happiest and return to that search engine when their search efforts find them exactly what they are looking for. It is your job to make sure the search engines find you.
