My daughter, Alia, is a state finalist in the National American Miss pageant in California. She will be competing in San Jose this weekend for the state title in the Teen category and hopefully move onto the national competition in November. What is the name of your business and what do you do?

Meet Brooke Sachs, Independent Rhoda + Fields Consultant – NAMISS SponsorRodan and Fields Dermatologists, we are changing skin and changing lives each day by offering dermatological skincare products with a multi-med therapy of the right products, in the right order, at the right time.

How or why did you decide to start your business?

I set a goal for myself of lessening my commute and taking on a side job for additional income in 2013. Through my business I have been able to leave my 9-5 job and 2 hour commute behind! Now, I am a 1099 contractor working from home while building replacement and residual income through skincare consultations, product sales, educating others on how to better take care of their skin, and coaching business partners and team members alike.

How does your business make a difference for your customers/ clients?

R&F makes a difference in people’s lives by clearing up their most concerning skin conditions. Through healthier, clearer skin they regain the confidence and “glow” that was previously lost. Many satisfied customers end up joining the company as Independent Consultants after a few months of seeing how the products have truly transformed their skin.

What is unique about you or your business when compared to your competitors?

With the recession a few years, everyone knows someone who was affected in some way, and many of us were affected ourselves. Businesses lost money, consumers were not spending, families lost their homes and some industries even collapsed. Our founders, Dr. Katie Rodan and Dr. Kathy Fields, were on Fox Business News on June 7 to speak about how Rodan and Fields has created thousands of jobs for Entrepreneurs nationwide, especially women. When asked if they had seen slow growth due to the economy they answered Dr. Kathy Fields answered “We are growing at a 105% compounded annual growth rate… and we were born in the recession in 2008!” Dr. Katie Rodan said “Ex-military, teachers, nurses, stay-at-home moms and people of all ages… it’s exciting to hear what they’ve done with this business”. Watch the video here: (

Our favorite joke is that our target demographic is…everyone with skin! Anyone who has a personal skin care concern, whether it be wrinkles, sagging skin, acne, scarring, sun damage, brown spots or age spots, melasma (pregnancy mask), or even sensitive skin issues such as rosacea, eczema, psoriasis and rashes – our products are clinically proven to lessen these concerns, leaving well nourished, glowing skin. Our products are even safe enough to use on diaper rash!

What are you personally passionate about?

I am personally passionate about giving men, women and children their confidence back while empowering them to make healthy decisions regarding their skin and overall health – there should be a balance between diet, exercise and your skincare routine to achieve optimal results! As always, drinking a lot of water and wearing sunscreen are always harped upon, and they truly are the best base to start from.

What 3 pieces of advice would you give to other business owners?

1) No matter your company, job or title – if you own a business of any kind you are always a Customer Service representative! Remember to treat everyone with respect and serve them in a way that makes them want to come back to you.

2) Always share your opportunity with others. You never know when someone is in need of a change, a Plan B, or has a void that you can fill.

3) Network, network, network!

Do you have any advice for the teens of today, as they navigate their way to adulthood.

The best advice I can give a teen is to take care of your skin by not tanning outdoors or in tanning beds! Our parents and grandparents generation did not have the knowledge we now have about cancer and other health issues resulting from too much direct sun exposure. While it may be “in” to be tan, we now know the health issues people have developed through these bad habits. Drinking water and always using sunscreen is so basic but really so important for your overall health.
