Where are my links on my new Facebook profile?

If you have gotten the new Facebook Profile you will see one major item is missing – the Links tab! This used to be a place where someone could visit their friend’s wall and see items they have posted whether it was an article, a youtube video or a blog post. There are no more Links accessible on the profile other than the items most recently posted on the wall. So where did they go? How can my friends see my links?

The above video shows you that in order to access friends’ links, you need to first go to the Home page on Facebook, and then find the Links bookmark on the left sidebar. From there you will get a feed of your friends’ links, or you can click to see My Links, or back to My Friends Links. Additionally you can use the link search box to type in a specific friend’s name to get a feed of just that one friend’s links. Sigh. This is a lot more work than it needs to be!

By the way, if you didn’t know this already you can adjust or “hide” which items show up in your sidebar bookmarks. In the video you will see I have many application bookmarks. After I made the video I decided to clear the clutter since I don’t need to access them all. Just click on the little tiny X next to each one you want to hide. If you click “more” you can see the link to See Hidden, and decide to add them back in if you want later.

Do you browse your friends’ links often? I find a lot of cool stuff when I do!

UPDATE 12/3/11 (original post is from January 2011)

It has moved and now is on the Home page, under APPS on the left column click MORE if you do not see it and then click LINKS. Argh! Direct link: http://www.facebook.com/bookmarks/apps This will show a list of your friends’ links shared. There is no place at the moment to find a list of your OWN links (sad) but if you have a fan page you can get to your fan page’s list of links on the left side, or add the tab by going to Edit Page – Apps – Links – ADD

Hope that helps!

    Karen,
Thanks for the video and info but are you able to provide a solution to the question people are actually asking. How do we access a page containing ONLY the links we have posted to our own wall. The link you are posting as an update does not do this. It seems the only list of links we are able to access is an aggregation of all links posted to our walls by friends, ourselves, any apps we’ve granted access, etc. It really does seem to be just another Farcebook downgrade. Any help appreciated.

Ahhh yes this is SAD and frustrating. If you have a fan page you can acccess only your links though – should be on the left side of your page. If not you can do Edit Page – Apps – find the Links section and click Edit Settings and it will say Available – click Add. I have NO idea why FB would take this away from personal profiles!

Hi – I don’t understand this response. Where are you getting to “Edit Page” from? I don’t find that option anywhere… also, any update on how we can find the pages and/or links that we have “shared”?

Howdy! I know this is somewhat off topic but I was wondering which blog platform are you using for
this site? I’m getting fed up of Wordpress because I’ve had problems with hackers
and I’m looking at options for another platform. I would be fantastic if you could point me in the direction of a good platform.

I can no longer see Apps or Links on my business FB home page. Only on the admin page when I switch to using FB as that name.

I can figure out no way to restore the business page so I can once again see the Links button on the left hand side. Any ideas?

There’s no way to look at a Links feed as a business Page. You can as a Profile though. Did you try this link listed in the Update above? https://www.facebook.com/bookmarks/apps “Links” is posted as an app but you have to go to the Apps list on the left first to get to it. Frustrating, I know!

I really like it when individuals get together and share views.

I have tried your method and can only find the links that all my friends/pages post on my homepage. Is there a way to isolate just the links I have posted in the past? I shared a few links on my page, in order to keep for the future, but now that I need them, I can’t seem to find them! Thanks!!

You will need to scroll through your Activity Log to do that! It’s a pain. Sorry!

None of this helps me at all. I want to know where all MY links I’ve posted and saved are, not every one else’s.

You have to go to your Activity Log but your posts are not separated by just Links any more. I have no idea why since you can sort by Photos etc. Sorry!

What a huge pain! I find it especially annoying that people post, “Be sure to click ‘share’ to save this to your timeline for later use.” When nothing could be further from the truth… Unless of course you have hours to spend scrolling through your timeline to try to locate one particular link that you are looking for! ARGH!!

Yes I agree. I wish there were a “search” box for timelines, that would make sense. What is the point of having posts on a timeline/chronological order, a search would make much more sense. One thing you CAN do though is click on the date stamp of a post you like (where it says posted at 10:18pm on Sept 10,2013 – this will open that post in it’s own tab or window. Then copy the URL of that particular post or bookmark it to save it for later. I do this sometimes for recipes if I don’t want to print them out.

I agree, Karen. All I’m looking for is some way to pull up the recipes that I’ve shared. Perhaps the reason FB doesn’t want to give us that functionality is b/c if we were to actually be able to FIND what we were looking for, then we’d have to spend less time on their site trolling for it, ergo less potential revenue for them. Whatever happened to making for a better customer experience! Apps and software will update all the time with this goal… why is FB any different? Am visiting your page for the first time and really enjoy it. Thanks for the responses and the immediacy with which you reply!

Thanks for the comment. And good news – Facebook is now rolling out “post search” meaning you can use the new Graph Search to find specific posts. Here’s hoping it actually works like they say it will! More info: http://techcrunch.com/2013/09/30/graph-search-posts/
